It was about thirty years between my first attempt at knitting and my second.  I had some gifts coming up that I wanted to be special, so I decided to try afghans.  I found a pattern book and searched for one piece afghans in order to avoid having to make several pieces that fit together right. (I have learned a lot since then, and that no longer frightens me.) After knitting two dark ones and this tweedy one, I realized that knitting texture shows up better on plain light yarn. But this tweedy one had a purpose beyond showing up the texture; it also had to camouflage cat hairs from light and dark colored cats.
