I had always wanted to do more than simple knit/purl, so when I saw that the local yarn shop had a series of classes teaching a new technique each month and ending up with an afghan sampler, I was elated. The pattern was designed by Amanda Gill, the instructor, for River Knits Fine Yarns, my local shop.

My favorite techniques of the 12 were counterpane, Fair Isle and lace. 

The counterpane was the first that I have revisited.
